Wool felt making process

 

Wool felt is an ancient fabric and the oldest recorded form of textile in human history. The manufacturing method has been handed down from ancient Rome and is a famous craft technology in Europe.

This time I'm going to show you step by step how to make wool felt.

1. Prepare wool. First, the wool undergoes pre-processing such as screening (peeling), shaving (wool purchased from Kaikai), washing (extracting impurities), carbonization, drying or drying.

2. Combing and making webs. The wool is processed in a carding machine and then carded into a mesh.

3. Rub it into the felt. Use a flat machine to knead the wool into a blank, and then pound it into felt to form the hardness and density of the felt.

4. Fulling and felting. Work on the density of the felt and then use a felt press to flatten the felt.

5. Bleaching and dyeing. If necessary, the felt is bleached, toned, and sometimes heat-styled and insect-proofed.

6. Make finished products. The processed felt is made into final products such as felt blocks, felt pads, and felt strips as needed.

This process requires specific skills and experience to ensure the quality and appearance of the final product.
